My Top 10 Games of 2025
Honestly my list could change tomorrow. 2025 was awesome!
G’day Gamers,
So here we are.
2025 has been an absolutely stacked year for gaming, and narrowing it down to ten has been genuinely difficult. Some of these picks will surprise nobody, but some of my favourites this year have been smaller titles that flew under the radar.
I should be upfront: there are some big games I simply haven’t gotten to yet. Hades 2, Death Stranding 2, and Dispatch are some of the culprits.
I’m currently working through Pokémon Legends: Z-A and enjoying the new battling mechanics, though it’s too early to know if it’ll crack my list.
For now, here’s the list of MY best games of 2025 in no particular order.
Digimon Story: Time Stranger
One of the surprises of the year, in my opinion, I’ve dabbled with other Digimon games, but this has been by far my favourite. I do have bias, as I was a big fan of the anime growing up.
Split Fiction
This game simply does couch co-op better than any other game I’ve played. This game never felt stale with its constantly changing gameplay mechanics and a multitude of creative worlds. Yeah , look, it’s definitely not my favourite story in gaming but my girlfriend and I were hooked until we completed it.
South of Midnight
This one felt like a throwback to the PS2 era & I absolutely adored this game. The storytelling, art direction and amazing soundtrack easily made this one of my favourites for the year.
Battlefield 6
One of my most played games this year, and I’m genuinely rubbish at it. It’s so much fun to sit back and play with the boys. It’s genuinely refreshing not to have to worry about what the meta class is and just play this game for what it is, an epic battle FPS that frustrates the heck out of me in the best way possible.
Hollow Knight Silksong
Yep, an Aussie writer showing love to an Aussie studio that caused the biggest moment in gaming this year.
Who’d of thought?
After seven years of waiting and an entire internet’s worth of memes, it finally dropped. It’s brutally difficult at times, but when you finally nail a boss that’s been destroying you for an hour, it makes it all worth it.
Yooka-Laylee Re-Playlee
Bit of a cheat since it’s technically a remake, but Re-Playlee improved on a game I already enjoyed. If you bounced off Yooka-Laylee back in 2017, this is worth a second look. It’s colourful, charming, and captures that Rare magic better than anything else has managed.
Blue Prince
If you’re the type who gets lost in puzzles and loves piecing together information across dozens of attempts, this is essential.
Make sure you have pen and paper nearby, you’ll need them.
Bionic Bay
Probably the most obscure title on this list, a breathtaking 2d platformer. Biionic Bay is a physics based puzzle platformer with some really clever level designed. The stripped-back silhouette visuals are stunning an the music sets the atmosphere perfectly. I definitely reccomend picking this one up while its super cheap.
Donkey Kong Bananza
I went and bought the Switch 2 for this as I’m a sucker for 3D platformers, and Bananza delivered.
Smashing through environments with DK’s fists is satisfying, and the relationship between Donkey Kong and young Pauline is genuinely touching.
Oh, and that big reveal towards the end had me sooooo hyped.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
It’s a bit of a cliché at this point, but Clair Obscur genuinely was my favourite game of the year. I loved the twists and turns within the narrative & some of the performances were incredible, backed up by their three performances of the year nominations at The Game Awards.
The music however is what I think really stole the show, I’ve fond myself listening to the soundtrack multiple times a week since my first playthrough.
I will say Simon can get in the bin. IYKYK.
Also, shoutout to my homie Esquie.
As it stands, Clair Obscur is a modern classic.
Honourable Mentions: Arc Raiders, Elden Ring: Nightreign, Rematch, Citizen Sleeper 2
All of these came close to cracking the list, and on another day, the order might look different.
Bring on 2026!
