Big Rumours About The Future of Nintendo

The Switch 2 is coming up on its first birthday in June, and Nintendo has been pretty quiet about what comes after the launch window. According to NateTheHate, one of the most reliable Nintendo insiders around, that's about to change. Video Games Chronicle says they've heard the same from their own sources.
So here's what's reportedly on the way.
Star Fox is reportedly back. A new game is said to be landing this summer, described as a return to the classic on-rails style that made Star Fox 64 one of my favourite games growing up. There is reportedly going to be Online multiplayer component which I’m interested in to see how that looks. The series hasn't had a proper entry since Star Fox Zero in 2016, and the timing isn't a coincidence. Fox McCloud was just confirmed for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, voiced by Glen Powell.
An Ocarina of Time remake is reportedly in the works. One of the universal GOATs of video games is reportedly getting a remake, it is expected to be released late 2026 as part of the 40th year anniversary of the Zelda franchise. This will be a big needle mover for the console, I can’t wait to get stuck in the water dungeon again..
3D Mario is reportedly not coming until 2027. Speaking of needle movers, we are going to have to wait a bit longer for a new entry into the 3D Mario franchise. If reports are true that will be 10 years since Super Mario Odyessy.
There's also a less verified rumour floating around about a pixel-art Super Metroid remake from MercurySteam. No credible source has backed that one up yet, so take it with a grain of salt.
Nintendo reportedly won't hold a general Direct until June, so we'll be waiting a while for anything official, but this direct could be an all timer.

The PS5 Just Got a Lot More Expensive

Sony announced last week that the PS5, PS5 Pro and PlayStation Portal are all going up in price from April 2. The increases are global, and no region is being spared.
In the US, the standard PS5 jumped from $549 to $649. Here in Australia the disc edition goes from $829 to $999, and the PS5 Pro from $1,199 to $1,399. This is the second major price hike globally in under a year, and the third in Australia since launch.
Sony's official reason is "continued pressures in the global economic landscape." The less official reason is a global memory chip shortage driven by the AI industry's enormous demand for components, which has pushed manufacturing costs up across the board. Nintendo and Microsoft have both made similar moves over the past year.
The number that stands out most for Australian players is the $999 price point for the standard PS5. That's the same price the PS3 launched at here back in 2007, a launch still remembered as one of the worst in gaming history. The PS3's price was a huge part of why it struggled out of the gate.
For now, the PS5 is still a great console worth owning. But it just got a lot harder to recommend to someone sitting on the fence.
