A New God Of War Game Just Dropped
A quick five-minute catch-up on the biggest game releases, updates, and industry news this week.
G’day Gamers,
PlayStation will dominate this week’s edition as PlayStation’s State of Play only finished a couple of hours ago. If you missed it, here’s everything worth knowing.
God Of War Fans Are Eating Good
The show-stealing announcement was God of War: Sons of Sparta is a 2D action-platformer set during Kratos’ youth at the Agoge alongside his brother Deimos. It’s developed by Mega Cat Studios in partnership with Santa Monica Studio, features hand-drawn pixel art animation, and appears to tell Kratos’ origin story.
The best part? It shadow-dropped immediately after the showcase. I’ve already downloaded it; I’ll be sure to share my thoughts.
In more GOW news, God of War Trilogy Remake has been officially announced for PS5. It’s still in early development and we got little more than a logo and TC Carson’s voice, but after years of fans asking Sony to bring the Greek saga back, this is a big deal.
Kena: Scars of Kosmora Opens the Show
The showcase kicked off with a surprise sequel nobody saw coming. Kena: Scars of Kosmora picks up with an older, more experienced Kena travelling to a mysterious island called Kosmora. Ember Lab is promising deeper combat, a larger world, and new elemental spirit companions replacing the Rot from the original.
Konami had its own showcase within a Showcase
Sony handed Konami a full segment, and they absolutely ran with it. Silent Hill: Townfall got a new trailer confirming first-person gameplay set in a foggy coastal town called St. Amelia, with a 2026 window and a Silent Hill Transmission immediately after the State of Play for more details.
Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse was revealed as a new 2D entry developed by Evil Empire and Motion Twin (the Dead Cells teams), set in 1499 Paris and launching later this year with a demo dropping tomorrow.
Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 is bringing MGS4 and Peace Walker to modern hardware on August 27, which is massive news for anyone who’s had MGS4 trapped on their PS3. Vol. 1 is also getting a free high-res update rolling out today.
We got a good look at Darwin’s Paradox, the octopus game you didn’t know you needed, complete with a Metal Gear Solid crossover of all things.
I’ve added this to the list of games I’ll play in 2026.
