The Save File

G'day Gamers,

Now I should be in a good gaming mood. This week one of my most anticipated games in 007 First Light finally released, I get news that I'll be reuniting with my homie Lanky Kong on Switch 2, heck I've even seen some news encouraging a Banjo Kazooie comeback.

But all I can think about is the beatings I've copped in Forza this week at the hands of that AI bastard BowieKnife99, man is really on demon time in these races. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, check out the ICYMI section.

Anyways that’s enough yapping.

Let's get into it,

Bond, James Bond
Two Of 2026 Biggest Games Landed This Week

This week delivered two of the year's biggest launches inside 48 hours, and the smaller one walked away with the bigger prize.

007 First Light was the marquee name. IO Interactive's first game outside Hitman in over a decade landed May 27 on PS5, Xbox and PC, the first proper James Bond game since 007 Legends in 2012, the release that shut down its own studio. Reviews settled at 88 on Metacritic, the best-reviewed Bond game since GoldenEye 007 in 1997. Patrick Gibson plays a 26-year-old Bond across a 14-hour origin story that runs through his MI6 recruitment and first 00 mission.

A lot of places are calling it the best Bond game of all time, which makes sense because there haven’t exactly been heaps of great Bond games over the years, but GoldenEye still has a special place in my heart.

Then on May 29 came Mina the Hollower, and it’s already taken the title that Forza Horizon 6 only managed to hold onto for about two weeks.

Yacht Club Games’ first title outside the Shovel Knight universe launched at $19.99 USD and immediately became the highest-rated game of 2026, sitting at 93 on Metacritic and 94 on OpenCritic with a 98 percent recommendation rate, ahead of Forza’s 91.

IGN, TheGamer and GameGrin all handed it a 10, so now I’m gonna need the internet to not be flogs and try to cancel the game just because IGN gave it a perfect score.

It’s a top-down action-adventure that pulls from Zelda, Castlevania and FromSoftware influences, set in a Victorian gothic world where you whip enemies, burrow underground to dodge attacks, and take on more than 25 bosses.

I’ve seen people describe it as Bloodborne with a Game Boy Advance art style, which sounds awesome.

In Case You Missed It
BRING BACK THE BEAR & BIRD.

Banjo-Kazooie has topped Xbox's Player Voice feedback as the most-requested game franchise Now if I had one wish as a gamer it would be for this franchise to get a revival. We need more bear & bird.

Rocket League will be the first Unreal Engine 6 game Epic and Psyonix dropped the news at the RLCS Paris Major, skipping UE5 entirely after a decade on UE3.
